A flat cap has a single low panel and sits close to the head. A newsboy is made of several panels joined at the crown, so it is fuller and rounder on top. Flat caps read sharper; newsboys read softer and suit fuller faces.

Wool is water-resistant, not waterproof. Light rain is fine. If it gets properly wet, reshape it while damp and let it dry flat at room temperature, away from radiators and direct sun.

Brush with a soft clothes brush following the nap, and spot clean marks with a barely damp cloth. Never machine wash or tumble dry — wool felts and shrinks. Store it flat rather than crushed in a pocket.
